| new blog address |
[May. 26th, 2007|10:35 pm] |
I started a new blog because I don't like updating this one or my myspace one. i always end up having to edit too much html. so it's now here:
http://chrishedstrom.blogspot.com
please enjoy. It's going to be updated pretty frequently and probably mostly about insects and MAYBE the occasional food review. Also, interesting science articles and facts i come across and also photos and artwork. probably not a lot of talk about politics. It won't be as easy to read since you actually have to go there to see it, unlike livejournal where you have a community of friends, so if you do decide to go over and read it, i'd appreciate it.
thanks, i hope you are well, chris. |

| introducing beatrice! |
[Nov. 21st, 2006|05:56 pm] |
just wanted to make everyone jealous of our new puppy. her name's beatrice and she's a "bug", a boston terrier/pug. She is two months old and a little smelly. we are happy to have her.
on the same day I got a nintendo wii, which is also awesome. yes, it was the best day of my life.

somebody named baileywick asked me to update my journal, which i haven't done since July, so here's an update.
I'm in school now and pretty busy, studying biology and japanese. It's a lot of homework. actually the algebra feels harder then the both of them but only because it's not nearly as interesting. Factoring polynomials just so there are less terms is not very fun, but learning about the theories about why there is a ring of DNA inside of mitochondria is. (Here's a side note: we watched a video about some termites in a lab we did, and the music during the intro was from the Ghibli film "Laputa".
I have a table at stumptown comics fest this weeked. Tim and Stef are driving down and staying with us, and Francois and Co (maybe) are coming up (and also maybe staying with us). He's also selling me one of his gocco printers. No new books, at least nothing new since portland zine symposium, where "m-mole" made a debut. yolanda will be selling delightful cupcake jewelry. noel will be selling some stuff, too.
I'll be dressed as one of the Number 2's from "the prisoner" for halloween.
I'm very excited about the Wii coming out. Yolanda stood in line in the cold for me for 2 hours one wet morning to preorder me one, since i was at work. I also preordered zelda and trauma center (and also warioware but that's been delayed until january, which i am skeptical about. I think it's just a way to get more people to buy third party games over the holidays, and for nintendo to ensure that it sells out in january, and also sells more copies of excite truck.) Just yesterday somebody sold their preordered Wii on ebay for $1,000. I sold ten old snes, n64 and PSX games on ebay and made $500. I got a game boy micro from fred meyer for $50 and it's the best toilet accessory ever, especially with rhythm tengoku in the slot.
Our little mijo is really awful and we want to get rid of him. He picks on lucy all the time. he smells. he eats. he's loud and destructive. He ignores all sorts of discipline. He's sharp. He has bad teeth and worse breath. He's not tiny anymore. everytime we are about to call the shelter he does something cute though, and we feel guilty, so we have the number where it's easy to get to, so we can call during a period of rage, of which there are many. i can hear him doing something right now. OH he also eats anything made of bread left on the counter. He wasn't doing anything wrong just now, just pooping. His poop smells exactly like halitosis.
I found 2 toques at target that i really like. Both are also lined in fleece so they don't itch, which makes them my first non itchy toques. i am happy that brown is popular this fall, but nt soe much when the exact brown paper i needed is sold out, which is what happened this afternoon.
I'm still enjoying portland very much. I am happy to see all the wet leaves all over the street.
That's pretty much what's new with me. I really want a cup of coffee, and we are almost out of firewood, and I need to call somebody about filling our heater with Oil, and I need to sort out my financial aid, and I need new tires and alignment done, and yolanda needs her brakes looked at. she's also been busy with classes.
Ok, i have to get back to work. I have like 6 pages of japanese workbook, and math review and about 65 pages of a biology text book to read. First i have to poo and make coffee though. nice talking to you.

| goodbye kumiko |
[Jun. 25th, 2006|09:28 am] |
my friends mike and jimmy have been making some pretty good music, despite the fact that i am not drumming for them any longer. it's probably for the best. at times it reminded me of beck, simian, and andrew bird. you ought to listen to it at http://www.goodbyekumiko.com . the site jimmy put together is beautiful, and the music even more so.
good bye kumiko |

| new kitty!!! |
[May. 29th, 2006|03:43 pm] |
we got a new kitty. his name's mijo. his name was ringo when we got him saturday, but we don't know how we like that name. he's around 2 years old, and weighs 4 lbs. that's as big as he'll get, we were told, because he has got some growth hormone problem. he was the same size as some month old kittens in the cage. he's friendly and clumsy and thin, like a monkey. he falls asleep in laps. he likes to headbutt and bat at your nose. he's into whatever toy you've got, and he's already litterbox trained. the old kitty, Lucy, is not to happy with his arrival. she'll just have to deal with it. he eats like the dickens. click on the picture to see lots more pics, but you may have to click "back" in the photostream. oh he also has weird dinosaur looking ears and weird toes, and might be a little deaf!

Dear Everyone,
thanks for your help on helping me choose buttons. the winners seem to be: 1)ghost sheriff (my favorite) 2)The dead pillbug 3)the goat (which surprised me) 4)The Bear scaring the salmon (also my favorite) 5)Bears in Love 6)birds listen with feet
Lion and crow and robot only got one vote each. though I really want to do the robot. So i might do that instead of the goat. Or the birds listen with their feet because I don't know if the text will be so clear. I am going to ask the nice people at button arcade what they think. Thanks again for your help. Really. I am very happy everyone liked the ghost sheriff.

| I need your opinion.... |
[May. 1st, 2006|09:13 pm] |
hello there. Kyle of buttonarcade has asked me to do some buttons for their 1" button .25 machines this summer. i get six designs and i am having trouble choosing. I need your opinions on which of these you think would make or not make good buttons. thanks! also, which you think i should NOT go with, if you feel there are some that way. thank you for your help. also, this image in shrunk a little. you can right click and say "view image" to see it bigger, but just a little bigger. The text on the bears says "i love you." and the test on the bird says "birds listen with their feet."

thanks again. happy mayday.

A lot of people are talking about the but have you seen the new ?
also there was a lot of snow in beaverton (where i work) which was cool but not so much in east portland (where i live) which was disappointing. at least i got to see the brunt of it. and it made it easier to drive home.
i am off to get a massage.

last week i turned 25. yolanda and i went to see some waterfalls in the Columbia Gorge. It was a good, chilly time. Before that we had breakfast at the Cameo. Later she took me to eat at The Farm. That all was delicious also. here's some pictures from the falls! some are wiggly.

i was going to do a quick write up of this new self heating coffee can from wolfgang puck but it totally sucks. it doesn't get that hot. it takes longer to make than a regular pot of better coffee, or instant. It totally tastes like splenda. it cost me almost 3 dollars. it tastes like quickly microwaved canned coffee drink. Granted, i could make this without going anywhere, but as portland has a coffee place every 2 blocks- many of them drive-thru- it's just not worth it. I didn't expect it to be very good, but i hoped it at least sizzzled or something after you pressed the button on the bottom. tooo bad. I thought i had a ton of terrible coffee left too, but it's just all the chemicals in the chamber surrounding the can weighing it down. boooo hoooo!
